UnderCenter is for those who obsess over football, especially at the high school and local college levels.

I write and produce videos about the people and places, the programs and mythos, the histories and rivalries, the minds and the madness that make this game great.

You will never find anything about sports betting here.

And this isn’t a news service.

This is as close to a magazine as you’ll get.

Why Start UnderCenter?

Obsession and annoyance. Mostly the latter.

I annoyed my wife, Megan, with my relentless yapping about local high school and college teams. And I became annoyed with how inaccessible and nearly unwatchable football has become at the NFL and major college levels.

Sports betting is bleeding into the viewing experience, quietly reshaping how we understand the game.

High school football isn’t about Friday nights anymore — it’s about where a kid plans to sign in two years. The coverage has drifted. The noise has gotten louder.

The game feels out of reach. And out of touch.

I’m trying to change that.

Now, it’s just a website and a YouTube channel. In the future, hopefully more. Whatever this becomes, I hope for you, it becomes a familiar spot.

Who started UnderCenter?

Me, Tim Godfrey

I, Tim Godfrey, started UnderCenter.

I currently work in social media, but I spent more than a decade writing about sports as an amateur and professional. I spent the last 3 years of my journalism career writing for the daily newspaper, the Enid News & Eagle as a sports reporter. In Enid, I learned how to be an award-winning writer, cut my teeth as a video producer, and realized living in Northwest Oklahoma is not for me.

I live in St. Louis county with wife Megan and 2 kids.
